Josefina Herrera entered into eternal rest on March 1, 2022 at the age of 75. She was born to the late Ciria Alfaro & Genaro Alfaro, Jr., and was a lifelong resident of Rio Hondo, Texas. Josefina was a loving wife, mother, and “Buela” who loved her family dearly. She was a woman of faith who trusted in God’s will and passed that faith to her family members. Those who knew Josefina knew she was willing to lend a hand to help those in need. She was a loving and devoted housewife who loved spending time cooking, tending to her home, and caring for her loved ones. Anyone who entered Josefina’s home never left on an empty stomach. When she was not tending to her home, Josefina could be found spending time praying and reading her Bible, as well as watching novelas with her husband and devoted partner. She is preceded in death by her beloved son Jesus Herrera, Jr, parents, Ciria Alfaro and Genaro Alfaro, Jr and brother Roberto Alfaro. Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 55 years, Jesus Herrera, Sr, and her daughters, Enedelia (Hector) Rodriguez and Elisa (Ricardo) Castañeda. She is also survived by her granddaughters, Abigail (Joseph) Smart, Jan (Mario) Rodriguez, and great-granddaughter Emelyn Faith Rodriguez, whom she loved with all of her being. Josefina’s family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, March 4, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, TX. A recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at 7:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Mission in Lozano, TX. Interment will follow at Las Yescas Cemetery in Rio Hondo, Texas. All individuals attending Josefina’s services are encouraged to socially distance and wear face covers or masks.
