Sabino Villarreal, 83, of Laguna Vista, passed away Friday, February 18, 2022 at Valley Regional Medical Center in Brownsville, Texas. Sabino was born in Port Isabel, Texas. When it came to the pride of his hometown, he was always there to support the community. He attended every home football game that he could. He was proud of his MIGHTY TARPONS! He was very well known in his community. Every morning he would take walks with his dear friend, Frank Mata. and wave to every friendly face he saw. When I say his routine never changed, it didn’t. Wednesday nights was for the fellows, “Poker Night” is what they called it. He would spend hours talking with the guys and just having a good ol’ time. Many saw him as a “man with many talents.” Along with his daily exercise and daily routines, he loved spending time fishing, and creating beautiful woodwork for his wife. He was an excellent craftsmen when it came down to it. When he wasn’t busy doing other things, he liked to take the time to watch sports on the television. His favorite thing to do was to spend time with his wife. He met Lupe while they attended high school in Port Isabel. It is at that time, he enlisted into the Army, where Lupe moved with him to his stationed military location in Fort Seal, OK. Once he was discharged from the Army, he moved back to his hometown roots where he then became a shrimp boat captain. He owned three boats total: Rene Boy, Miss Lupita and Christy Crystal. He continued this line of work for 15 years. He then retired and became a stay-at-home dad/husband. His world revolved around the love of his life; his wife. Whether he was sitting at home having breakfast, lunch, or dinner to their weekly Walmart outings; he was proud to be around such a magnificent woman. Sabino lived his life to the fullest every day. At the end of everyday he made sure his loved ones knew they were loved dearly by him and that they would always be together no matter what. He is preceded in death by his parents, Francisco and Rita B. Villarreal. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Guadalupe L. Villarreal; 2 sons, Rene Villarreal Sr. and Rene Villarreal Jr.; 1 daughter, Debra Garcia, 3 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and 1 on the way.
