Carmen Martinez, 75, of Port Isabel passed away Friday, December 17, 2021 at Harlingen Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas. Carmen was born in Port Isabel to Edwardo "Lalo" & Consuelo "Blanca" Esquitin on March 24, 1946. She attended Catholic school up til 8th grade and attended Port Isabel high school up til the 11th grade and later in the years she received her GED. She worked at multiple jobs including Dairy Queen, La Jaiba, Value Fest, Walmart, and every year elections. She enjoyed playing Chalupa and Poker with friends and family. She was a lifetime member of the Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, a member of Spanish choir and she volunteered for the children's CCE, bereavement community and all church activities. She was a big fan of the Port Isabel Tarpons, Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans. Carmen is preceded in death by her father, Edwardo Esquitin, mother, Consuelo Barrientez Esquitin; brother, Edwardo Esquitin, Jr.; sisters, Maria Teresa Rivera, Maria Evagelina Garza; niece, Maria Guadalupe; and nephew, Lucio Garza. Left to cherish Carmen’s memories are her loving husband of 58 years, Juan Martinez; daughters, Elizabeth A. Sanchez (Juan), Janet Martinez; sons, Juan Rudy Martinez (Roxana), Leslie S. Martinez (Rafaela) and Jose Ray Martinez (Eulogia); grandchildren, Juan (John) Martinez, Leslie S. Martinez, Jr., Seth A. Martinez, Lawrence J. Sanchez, Juan (JJ) Sanchez, Jr., Randi Lee J. Willtrout, Krystal M. Martinez, Amanda V. Martinez, Danielle J. Martinez, Andrea D. Martinez, Lizbeth G. Sanchez, Risa A. Martinez; great-grandchildren, Joseph J. Martinez, Michael Martinez, Hayen L. Soto, Zayne H. Cantu, Ezekiel Martinez, Sabina Martinez, Alaynah Marquez, Alice Lozano, Katalina Cantu, Madelyn Fernandez, Scarlett Ortiz, Kendra Martinez and Israel J. Martinez. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, Texas. A Mass of Resurrection will be held on Thursday, December 23, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 705 S. Longoria, Port Isabel, Texas 78578 with interment to follow to Port Isabel City Cemetery. Honored to serve as pallbearers are Seth Martinez, Leslie S. Martinez, Jr., Israel J. Martinez, Juan (J.J.) Sanchez, Jr., Juan E. Martinez, Michael Martinez, Leslie S. Martinez, Sr. and Jose Raymond Martinez. All individuals are encouraged to follow CDC guidelines by socially distancing a minimum space of 6 feet apart and face covers or masks are recommended.
