Annabell Alaniz Alegria, 59, of Brownsville, Texas passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, December 17, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. After graduation from Port Isabel High School, Annabell received her Bachelors Degree from Wellesley College in Boston Massachusetts. She went on to attend the University of Texas College of Law and graduated with a Juris Doctorate Degree. Licensed by the State of Texas to practice law, she returned to the Rio Grande Valley where she worked for several law firms before establishing her own law office. During her legal career she worked and devoted a lot of her time and energy to community service in Brownsville and throughout The Valley. She served as president and Board Member of Zonta, was chair of The United Way Campaign, member and President of the Cameron County Bar Association, member of the Brownsville Housing Authority Board of Directors, and member of the Good Neighbor Settlement House Board of Directors. She served as an associate municipal court judge for the City of Port Isabel. The Texas Center for Legal Ethics and Professionalism, and the Cameron County Bar Association awarded Annabell the prestigious Texas Center professionalism award in recognition of her contributions to the law and service to her clients. In addition to her law practice and community service Annabell was an avid yoga practitioner, earning her certification to teach yoga after 200 hours of yoga instruction. Annabell and her husband have traveled extensively through the United States, Italy, Venezuela, Mexico, The Caribbean, Canada, and Cuba. Known for her no nonsense approach to life she earned the respect not only of the legal community, but of the community at large. She will be missed by all who knew her and she is leaving a huge void in our hearts. She is preceded in death by her Father Tomas Torres and Mother Sofia Torres. She is survived by her loving Husband Judge Felix Recio, Children, Christian Daniel Lavios, Souther Berry Recio, Adam (Thea) Christopher Cavazos, Ryan (Tiffany) Michael Recio; Sister – Janie (Ric Madrigal) Alegria, Brother Albert (Angie) Alegria, and Sister Nelda (Henry) Najera; Grandchildren, Trinity Marie Recio, Ryland Alexander Recio, Lily Adele Cavazos, Harper Avery Cavazos, and Roman Adam Cavazos. Private Memorial Services will be held for Annabell Alaniz Alegria on Wednesday, January 6, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. with State District Judge, Adolfo Cordova delivering the eulogy.
