Obituary of Virginia R. Hernandez

Please share a memory of Virginia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Virginia R. Hernandez was born in Harlingen, Texas on May 21, 1926 and she entered Heaven’s gate at 95 years young on Saturday November 13, 2021. She was the eldest of 4 brothers and 4 sisters. She was raised in San Benito for a brief time until her parents, Felipe and Facunda Rodriguez, decided to move back to Mexico. With limited formal education as a teenager, she worked several jobs as a migrant worker returning several times to the states. Her deep Catholic faith was the key that carried her through life’s most difficult challenges. Over the past 95 years, she’s witnessed some of the most profound changes in human history from war, political strife, human achievements and financial disasters. Despite all the world’s turmoil, she met her future husband Eliborio, mothered and cared for 11 children, including two sets of twins, and still made time for prayer and rosary before bedtime. Her life would seem long to many, but those of us who were blessed to be touched by her understand that her existence and the imprint she left on our hearts was just too short! She was talented in so many aspects of her life, a remarkable cook who enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends, especially over the holidays. She could always be found working on word search puzzles, although playing chalupa and bingo with family and friends were the most memorable as long as she was winning. In her golden years she loved spending most her time at Delia’s Adult Daycare. Virginia was predeceased by her loving husband of 62 years, Eliborio Hernandez. She was also predeceased by her parents, 2 brothers, 3 sisters, and one granddaughter: Stephanie Lynn Miller. She is survived by 11 children! Delia (Luis), George, Sylvia (Donald), Lydia (Eusebio), Rachel, Rosalinda, Israel, Carmen (Jorge), Hilda, Imelda, and Gustavo. She is also survived by 30 grandchildren; Delia (7), George (3), Sylvia (3), Lydia (4), Rachel (4), Rosalinda (1), Carmen (2), Hilda (3), Imelda (3). Survived also by 30 great grandchildren; George (4), Sylvia (3), Lydia (9), Rachel (3), Imelda (11). Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 17, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. with a Holy Rosary to be held at 7:00 p.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, Texas.
