Obituary of Porfiria Martinez Gutierrez

Please share a memory of Porfiria to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On Thursday, November 11, 2021, our Lord and Savior called our beloved mother, Porfiria Martinez Gutierrez, home. Known to many as “Lola or Chata” from San Benito, Texas. Porfiria was born on September 15, 1938 in Guanajuato, Mexico to parents Jose Mateo Martinez and Margarita Guerrero who preceded her in death. Porfiria is also preceded in death by her brother Johnny Guerrero and her two grandchildren Sergio Javier Gutierrez and Orlando Duke Garza. Porfiria is survived by her sisters Consuelo Vargas (Ruben) and Martha Abrego (Eloy +) and two brothers Francisco Guerrero and Aurelio Martinez. Porfiria was married to Enrique Gutierrez for 68 years and has six children; Javier Gutierrez (Mary Jane Atkinson), Herlinda (Alvaro) Peralta, Enriqueta (Gonzalo) Garza, Ernesto Gutierrez, Juanita (Rogerio) Guajardo and Virginia Gutierrez. Grandchildren; Orlando Gutierrez, Amanda Gutierrez, Claudine Ontiveros (Joe Benavides), Jose Peralta, Norrand (Patricia) Garza, Vanessa Garza, Sylvia Barnes, Virginia Barnes, Jade Gutierrez, Enrique Alexandre Gutierrez, Alexis Nenita Gutierrez, Carolyn (Sam) Martinez, Clarrisse (Robert) Garcia, Hector (Mary) Suarez and Daughter in Law Diana Salazar. Numerous great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, Porfiria absolutely loved and adored. Let’s not forget Mimis Gutierrez. How she loved and cared for her pet dog. Porfiria never received a formal education, but her wisdom and knowledge of life would have fooled anyone. She was determined to learn English and went onto receive her citizenship with pride. She was a determined goal setting woman with the strength and resilience to match. Porfiria will be dearly missed. She had an abundance of friends, her door was always open and her table was always set. You wouldn’t dare leave on an empty stomach or an amazing story from Lola’s house.
