Joe Saldivar Jr. of Port Isabel passed away on Sunday, October 3, 2021, at the age of 50. He was a very loved husband, father, grandfather, son, uncle, brother and friend. Joe was born on July 15, 1971. He graduated in 1990 from Port Isabel High School, where he met his loving wife. Joe worked for various water utility companies including Brownsville P.U.B for 19 years. Joe had a passion for traveling and moving to different cities. During his spare time he enjoyed fishing, golfing, barbecuing, and spending time with his family. Joe was a fan of the New England Patriots, but he was also a firm believer of “Once a Tarpon, always a Tarpon”. He was best known for his straight forward answers, his smart wit and his humor. For those closest to him, he was kind hearted, generous and accepting. He is preceded in death by his mother, Guadalupe Rubio; his father, Joe Saldivar; his maternal grandparents, Leon and Carmen Alaniz; paternal grandmother, Francisca Barron; brother, Jesus Guerrero; father-in-law, Porfirio B. Vega; sister-in-law, Georgina Vega, and uncle, Alvaro Rocha. Left to cherish Joe’s memory is his adoring wife of 29 years, Evelyn Vega Saldivar; his daughter, Tiffany Paige Saldivar; his son, Andrew Joseph Saldivar; 1 grandson, Mason Dean Montemayor; 5 sisters, Rosario Saldivar, Rosalinda Rubio, Carmen Rubio, Ana Lilia Saldivar, and Sonia Guerrero and 6 brothers, Miguel Saldivar, Ismael Saldivar, Ted Saldivar, Al Saldivar, Vicente Guerrero and Manuel Guerrero, along with numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 13, 2021, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito. A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, October 14, 2021, at 11:00 a.m., at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church 705 S. Longoria St, Port Isabel, TX. and in accordance to his wishes, cremation will follow. Honored to serve as pallbearers are Jarrod Martinez, Santiago Ochoa IV, Lorenzo Galvan, Domingo Cortez, Michael Esquibel, George Hernandez and honorary pallbearer Manny Garza. All individuals are encouraged to follow CDC guidelines by socially distancing a minimum space of 6 feet apart and must wear face covers or masks.
