Anna Maria Holland Ochoa, 88, of Port Isabel, passed away Thursday, September 16, 2021. Anna’s story began on June 14, 1933, when she was born to Enrique and Isidra Holland. Anna’s “dash” is a touching example of how to celebrate a rich and full life before the onset of Alzheimer’s. She was a life-long resident of Port Isabel, Texas, a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, and a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Chapter #2569. She served the elderly and others of her community, while working at the Port Isabel Multi-Service Center as a social worker. Anna dedicated her life to her family and enjoyed a special bond with her brothers. She was a dedicated mother, first and foremost. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as Momo, as she was known to everyone. Our “Momo,” will always be remembered for her great home-cooking and her fresh homemade flour tortillas. Her kitchen was always opened to all, especially during the holidays when she hosted her family “tamaladas,” as well as her bunuelos and champurrado to welcome every new year. Our family’s Matriarch was a fierce force to be reckoned with, especially when it came to her children and grandchildren. Her strong presence will be deeply missed and cherished forever. Anna is preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Lauro Torres Ochoa, her eldest son, Lauro Ochoa, Jr., grandsons, Joseph and Joel Ochoa, her parents, her 3 brothers, Enrique Holland, Uvaldo Holland, Sr., and Gonzalo Holland, Sr., her sister, Delia Holland, and her daughter-in-law, Lourdes Rosas Ochoa. Anna is survived by her loving children Palmira Ochoa, Jose Enrique (Rosie) Ochoa, Sr., Helen (Desi Delgado) Delgadillo, Yolanda (Mike) Pemberton, Orlando (Robin) Ochoa, Grace (Rene) Castillo, Jose Enrique Ochoa, Jr., and Jessica (Michael) Pena. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren: Joanna Ochoa (Rudy) Hisquieredo, Dante (Gabby) Delgadillo, Abel (Cindy) Delgadillo, Esteban (Evelyn) Delgadillo, Leila Delgadillo, Orlando (Taryn) Ochoa, Jr., Anna Linda (Matthew) Garza, Rose Mary (James Stukes) Ochoa, Michael Allen (Evelyng) Pemberton, Anissa Pemberton, Hannah Castillo, Jayden Castillo, Seth Pena and Ethan Pena; 20 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great grandchildren; her brother, Vidal “Billy” Holland; and her sisters-in-law Victoria Holland, Emma Holland, and Ninfa Holland. Serving as pallbearers are her loving grandsons: Dante, Abel, Esteban, Lando, Jr., Michael Allen, Jayden, Seth, and Ethan. Honorary pallbearers are her loving granddaughters: Joanna, Leila, Anna Linda, Rose Mary, Anissa, and Hannah. A rosary shall be recited on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, Texas. The Resurrection Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 23, 2021 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 705 S. Longoria St., Port Isabel, Texas. Interment to follow at the Port Isabel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Chapter #2569, P.O. Box 1155, Port Isabel, Texas 78578.
