Olivia L. Zuniga passed into the Kingdom of Heaven on Saturday September 4, 2021. We rejoice; she is reunited with her husband, Raul, on his birthday. She was born on April 18, 1929 in Rio Hondo, Texas. She was united in marriage with Raul Zuniga on October 19, 1952. Olivia was a loving wife, mom, grandmother and great-grandmother. She took abundant pride in all her children and was always a part of her grandchildren’s activities and accomplishments. She was especially proud of the fact that all her grandchildren continued their post-high school education. Olivia was a loyal member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Lozano. She served as Eucharistic Minister for many years, was a member of the Guadalupana Society, and was a consistent contributor to St. Vincent’s well-being. She is preceded in death by her parents: Hilario and Victoria Lugo, her husband: Raul R. Zuniga Sr., her daughter: Rachel Z. Flores, her 3 brothers: Carlos, Benito, and Santiago Lugo, and sister: Emma Lopez. Olivia leaves behind a legacy of love and family. Surviving family members include sisters: Blanca Leal and Elida Alfaro, son-in-law: Fred Flores (Rachel+), daughter: Rosie Z. Martinez (Albert), sons Raul R. Zuniga, Jr. (Gloria), Ricky Zuniga (Rachel) and Rudy Z. Lugo (Elvira). Grandchildren include: A.J. Flores, Ashley Flores, Ryan Martinez, Kris Martinez, Justin Martinez, Jonathan Sanchez, Emily Basaldua, Andrew Zuniga, Rick Zuniga, Monica Z. Urias, Mathew Zuniga, and great-grandchildren: Olivia Sanchez, Finn Zuniga, Annamarie Martinez, Briella Basaldua, Mila Urias, Evangelyne Martinez and Nolan Zuniga. Visitation will be held Wednesday September 8, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a rosary at 6:30 p.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, Texas. Funeral Mass will be held Thursday September 9, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Helen’s Catholic Church 228 Huisache Ave, Rio Hondo, TX. with interment to follow at Mont Meta Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers will be all her grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be granddaughters: Emily Basaldua, Ashley Flores and Monica Z. Urias. All individuals are encouraged to follow CDC guidelines by socially distancing a minimum space of 6 feet apart and must wear face covers or masks.
