RIO HONDO – Josefat Castro, 95 passed away peacefully on July 1. 2021 at his residence in Las Yescas, Texas. Our dad was a dedicated husband, a loving father and caring wonderful grandfather. He worked tirelessly as a ranch hand and migrant farmworker to provide for his family; a feat he successfully accomplished. His family and friends were very fortunate to have been a part of his life and we were blessed to have him in our lives as well. He will be in our hearts forever. He was the proud grandfather of 13 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 3 great- great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Octaviano Castro and Julia Diaz Castro and his two sons, Roberto and Jose H Castro. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Maria De la Luz Hernandez Castro and his three children David Castro (Connie), Angel Castro (Maria) , and Blas Octavio Castro. Visitation will be held Tuesday July 6, 2021, at Thomae Garza Funeral Home in San Benito from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., with a discourse at 7 p.m. On Wednesday July 7, 2021, a short service will be held at 10 a.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home with burial to follow at Las Yescas Cemetary. All individuals are encouraged to social distance and wear face covers or masks. (May include bandanas or sewn or cloth face coverings).
