Elena Atkinson Garcia, 80, of Rio Hondo, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, April 20, 2021, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was a life-long resident of Rio Hondo, and a member of the Eucharistic Ministery at St. Helen’s Catholic Church. She enjoyed dancing, serving, at the church and gardening. She also enjoyed helping and donating to people in need. Left to cherish her memory are her loving children, Rachel Zuniga, Lillian Amaya, Leticia Diaz, Robert Garcia, Jr. and Oscar Garcia; grandchildren, Andrew Zuniga, Anthony Zuniga, Monica Urias, Mathew Zuniga, Marissa E. Amaya, Michael Amaya, Nicholas Amaya, Alexis Diaz, Chelsea Diaz, Dylan Garcia, Thalia Garcia and Raven Garcia. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 22, 2021, from 5 p.m., until 9 p.m., with the recitation of the holy rosary to begin at 7 p.m., at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, April 23, at St. Helen’s Catholic Church, 228 Huisache Ave., Rio Hondo, TX, with burial to follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park. Honored to be serving as Elena's pallbearers are Andrew Zuniga, Anthony, Zuniga Mathew Zuniga, Michael Zuniga, Mario Amaya and Nicholas Amaya.
