Peter J. Gonzalez, Jr., 74, of Laguna Vista, Texas, entered into eternal rest on January 15, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Peter was an avid bird lover, reader and dedicated New Yorker. He also enjoyed sailing, traveling, cruising, theatre, plants, and the ocean. He retired from the Los Fresnos CISD after many years of teaching. He was a comedian at heart. He will be greatly missed. Mr. Gonzalez was preceded in death by his parents, Peter J. and Lucy M. Gonzalez; an aunt, Julie Crawford; brother-in-laws, George Ortiz and Richard Gonzalez-Hogan; two cousins, Manny and Charles Crawford; two uncles, Andy Rodriguez and Felix Camps. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Janie D. Gonzalez; two daughters, Alethea A. Cisneros and Jilian E. G. (Arturo) Leyva; two sons, Bryan (Kimberly) Tyrrell and Darrin (Elvida) Tyrrell; step-son, Hector (Nancy) Bennett Jr.; step-daughter, Annette Bennett; sisters, Gwen Gonzalez and Karen (Lee) Richman; and a brother, Douglas Gonzalez. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. with a prayer service to begin at 7 p.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home. Live stream will be available for the prayer service at ThomaeGarza.com A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, January 21, 2021, at the Port Isabel City Cemetery in Port Isabel, Texas. Military honors will be conducted at the gravesite. Honored to be serving as Mr. Gonzalez’s pallbearers are Hector Bennett, Jr., Raul Escamilla, Darrin Tyrrell, Frankie Davalos, Jose Atkinson, Jr., Luis Rios, Rey Rios, III and Rey Rios, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Ashlyn Cisneros and Christina Rodriguez.
