Rebecca Gaona Barrientos, 92, family matriarch, passed away on January 8, 2021. She was born on September 2, 1928, to the late Felipe and Refugia Gaona in San Benito, TX. Rebecca, “Grandma”, was a loving, nurturing, and selfless person who dedicated her life to God and raising her children and grandchildren. We admired her endless love she shared with her late husband, Gregorio Barrientos Sr. and her family. She had a passion for gardening and watching The Dallas Cowboys. She was greatly respected and will be greatly missed. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Gregorio Barrientos Sr., and children, Maria Luisa Barrientos, and Gregorio Barrientos Jr. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Esperanza(Rene) Garcia, Juan(Gloria) Barrientos, Alberto(Julie) Barrientos, Sylvia(Amador) Hinojosa, Irma Barrientos, Mary Barrientos, Ricardo(Victoria) Barrientos, Linda(Delfino) Gamez, Luz Barrientos, Benny Barrientos, and Noe(Cynthia) Barrientos. Also surviving are her siblings, Rogelio(Lola) Cortez, Gil(Irma) Cortez, Guadalupe(Guadalupe) Cortez, David(Joyce) Cortez, and Carmen(Paulino) Huerta, Along with 34 grandchildren, 99 great-grandchildren, and 20 great great- grandchildren. Due to current restrictions, this establishment will follow the 25% occupancy limit and all persons shall institute social distancing of a minimum space of 6 feet apart. All individuals must wear face coverings or masks. (May include bandanas or sewn or cloth face coverings). Visitation will be held, Wednesday, January 13, 2021, from 5pm-9pm, at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home, with a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7 pm. A funeral mass service will be held Thursday, January 14, 2021, at 10 am at St Benedict Catholic Church in San Benito, Texas with a burial to follow to Mont Meta Memorial park.
