Obituary of Ubaldo V. Gomez

Please share a memory of Ubaldo to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Harlingen, TX Ubaldo V. Gomez entered eternal rest on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at Valley Baptist Medical Center. Valdo had a full and fruitful life. He was a self-made man, who developed a successful home building business, employing many tradesman and creating custom dream homes. He was an avid fan of the Western movie and had a passion for cars. He collected and sold Vintage, and Muscle automobiles. In the early days of his life, he rode a Chopper wide handle motorcycle wearing his leather vest and sporting huge side burns. We can see him now as this big guy, when standing was 6 ft. 3” carrying a low, gargly, muffled voice that could scare. But he fooled no one, not even the children. He always gave a beautiful smile once you found his gaze. All the kids loved him very much and still do. Another one of his enjoyments and trait was to make fun of people, sometimes hurting their feelings, but he always did it laughing and that was what was so much fun about him. Seeing him enjoy it, made it worth the while. But don’t give it back because even a bear doesn’t like to be poked. He was a sensitive bear, Indeed. When driving around town in his big truck, he sat in the passengers seat, because Toni did all the driving near and far. Always. Everyone who knew Valdo, knew his devotion to his family. Toni beside him and Beckie riding shotgun. He was a lucky man with a vast circle of family and friends who will remember him for his big heart and big boots and shy smile. He was not one to regret anything, eating too much or buying too many cars. He enjoyed his life to the fullest never having had to eat just fruit for it. He believed there ain’t no heaven and prayed there ain’t no hell, for he was a man’s man from the yesteryear. God Bless this man. “cause when I’m gone and when I’m dead, there will be one child born in this world to carry on, to carry on” Amen Ubaldo , or (Wally) as most people called him, was a husband, father, grandfather, and a respected member of the community. Ubaldo was passionate about cars especially corvettes, antiques and classical/vintage cars. One thing he also enjoyed doing was to travel distance to purchase a favorite car he had seen. He enjoyed riding Harley-Davidson's and at one time was President of the Latin America Club in Aurora, Illinois and was also President of Los Conquistadores Motorcycle Club of Aurora, Illinois. Ubaldo was owner and contractor of VG Construction of Harlingen, TX. He enjoyed building homes, one of his other hobbies. He was of strong character but had a great heart and helped many people in time of need. Ubaldo made it a point to travel to California and Illinois to visit family and friends. He couldn't leave Illinois without visiting his favorite restaurant "Portillo's". Another of "Wally's" favorite restaurants was "In and Out Burgers". He had to make a quick stop to pick up some burgers. Ubaldo is survived by his wife of 56 years Maria Antonia, and only daughter Beckie Ann. He also had two grandchildren Louie Benavides IV (Jewelle) and Stephanie Rae Benavides (Andrew). He is also survived by his brother David Gomez (Betty) and sisters Prajedes Arcaute (Joe), Sylvia Reyna (John) Angelica Cisneros (Luis)and numerous of nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Cornelio Gomez and Simona Valdez Gomez. Ubaldo will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
