Obituary of Jose Guadalupe Cuevas

Please share a memory of Jose to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jose “Pepe” Guadalupe Cuevas, 72, of Port Isabel, Texas, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 6, 2020 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas. Born in a small town near the Mexican gulf coast, Pepe always had a connection to the fishing and shrimping industry. Along side his mother, at the age of five he immigrated from Tampico to Port Isabel where he attended school until his early teens and began working as a shrimper. At the age of 21 he became Captain and owner of his first vessel. Pepe and his wife Trine went on to become successful owners of 11 vessels and other small business ventures. They were both well known in the community and active members of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. Pepe was a hard-working and supportive husband, father, grandfather and friend. He gave infinite ‘tough’ love and support to all his children and grandchildren. He did everything in his power to do all he could for them and anyone that asked. He rarely made time for hobbies but enjoy relaxing in the evenings watching tv with his wife, sporting events with the kids or just sitting on the porch listening to music thinking up his next big thing. He will be remembered as a stubborn, generous and very matter of fact man who rarely cracked a smile. He always made the ultimate sacrifices for the good of his family and will greatly missed by all that knew him. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maria Trinidad “Trine” Cuevas; daughter, Inez Cuevas; and father Francisco Espinoza. Pepe is survived by his loving children: Jimmy Cisneros of Houston, Jose (Violeta) Cuevas Jr. of Port Isabel, Edward Cuevas of Port Isabel, and Lisa Cuevas of San Antonio; 15 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; his mother Guadalupe Espinoza; one brother, Manuel (Mary) Espinoza; and one sister, Anita (Pepe) Ramirez. Due to current COVID restrictions, this establishment will follow the 25% occupancy limit and all persons shall institute social distancing of a minimum space of 6 feet apart. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at Port Isabel City Cemetery.
