Maria Del Refugio Moreno, 93, of Port Isabel, Texas, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 15, 2020 while surrounded by her family at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas. She was a lifetime resident of Port Isabel and a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Port Isabel. Maria was employed with the Port Isabel School District for 30 years before retiring in the early 90’s. She will be dearly missed by her family. Maria was preceded in death by her parents, Filomeno Moreno Lopez and Soledad Gonzalez Rojo; and one sister, Lilia Lecona. Surviving her is her daughter Teri (Gilbert) Vela; her son Fernando (Maria Elena) Moreno; four grandchildren: Jenica Vela, Janelle (Bryan) Allen, Dara Moreno, and Keila Moreno; two great-grandchildren: Alyssa Allen and Maleah Allen; several brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews; as well as her caregivers Bertha Marchan and Marcos Antonio Bautista. The scattering of her ashes will take place on her birthday in September later this year when all of her family can be present.
