Obituary of Rita Ponce

Rita Ponce, 85, was born September 5, 1933 in Matamoros and entered the golden gates Wednesday, March 20, 2019. She was loved by many and will be missed dearly.

Rita is preceded in death by her husband, J. Carmen Ponce; mother, Carmen Franco; father, Anastacio Gutierrez; sisters, Juana and Consuelo Molina; brothers, Manuel Franco and Benito Rodriguez; and grandson, Pedro Puga.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Jose (Martha) Ponce, Pedro (Luz) Ponce, and Juan Ponce; daughters, Bertha Ponce, Herlinda (Manuel) Cortez, Martina Ponce, and Maria (Reymundo) Canizalez; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; and brother, Victor Rodriguez.

Visitation will begin Saturday, March 23, 2019, from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and will continue Sunday, March 24, 2019, from 12:00 noon to 9:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, Texas.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 25, 2019, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with interment to follow at San Benito City Cemetery.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Jose C. Ponce, Jose Ponce, George Lopez Jr., Gilbert Martinez, Reymundo Canizalez, and Angel Rodriguez.
