SAN BENITO, TX. - Petra Ramos, 88, a life time resident of San Benito, TX, joined the Lord Sunday, February 4, 2007, peacefully in her sleep in Lake Jackson, Texas. She was born June 29, 1918 in Monterrey, Mexico, her mother returned to Texas to gain employment after her father died. She lived with her grandparents, Alfonso and Petra Torres in Tivoli, TX, for many years where she learned the hard work of sharecropping. She appreciated a hard day's work, as she herself worked as a migrant worker her entire life and raised a family of three. She attended St. Benedict and St. Theresa Catholic Church in San Benito, Texas. Ms. Ramos is survived by her daughters, Janie (Larry) Cox of Lake Jackson, TX; Isabel (Dan) Vogler of Hope, AR; her son, Robert Cardona of San Benito, TX; grandchildren, Kathy (Ryan) Smith, Larry Cox, Jr., Robert Cardona, Jr., Nicholas Moran, and Connie (Jeffrey) Mitchell; great-grandchildren, Kyle Smith, MiKayla Moran, Trent Moran, and Beowulf Mitchell. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 7, 2007 from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. with a Rosary at 7:00 P.M., which will be conducted by her cousin and longtime deacon of St. Theresa Catholic Church, Benito Flores. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, February 8, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. at St. Theresa Catholic Church. Interment to follow to San Benito City Cemetery.
