Obituary of Refugia Holland Guzman

Refugia Holland “Cuqita/ Pisqua” Guzman, 93, of Port Isabel, Texas passed away on Thursday, July 13, 2017 in San Antonio, Texas.

She was born and raised in Port Isabel and was a lifelong member of the Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. She was a member of the church Spanish Choir, the Guadalupanas Club and a church helper. She lived in Monterrey, N.L. Mexico for over 5 years where she served and worked with Sister Beatrice, Sister Guadalupe and Sister Valentina at the parish of the Divina Provedencia.

 She was preceded in death by one son; Guadalupe H. Guzman, her parents; Mariano and Refugia Perez Holland; two sisters, Beatrice H. Floyd and Magdalena H. Garcia, as well as two brothers, Mariano Holland, Jr. and Dr. Richard P. Holland and a daughter-in-law; Alicia Moreno Guzman.

Refugia is survived by her son Gabriel “Gabe” Guzman of Harlingen, Texas, a daughter Gloria Imelda G. De Los Santos of San Antonio, Texas and a daughter-in-law, Paula Oakley Guzman of Austin, Texas; seven grandchildren, 10 greatgrandchildren, four sisters, Ruby H. Garcia, Josephine H. Lubbck, Enriqueta H. Barrera of Port Isabel, Texas and Camile H. Follmer of Minong WI; two brothers, Jose Roberto Holland of Port Isabel, Texas and Ernest William Holland of Panama City, Panama, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

 Visitation will be held on Monday, August 7, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a holy rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady Star of he Sea Catholic Church located at 705 S. Longoria St. in Port Isabel, Texas.

 A memorial mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church located at 705 S. Longoria St. in Port Isabel, Texas with inurnment to follow at the Port Isabel City Cemetery.
