Obituary of Alice Guthrie Berard

Please share a memory of Alice to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Alice Guthrie Berard, age 91, of McAllen, Texas, passed away on March 28, 2017 at the Valley View Senior Living Home in Harlingen, Texas. Today we are celebrating her life. She was an only child of English Immigrants. She was so proud of her heritage and would often refer to these roots. She loved decorating the home with every season. She brought such joy to these occasions by the newly decorated room or wreath on the door. Cards parties, backyard gatherings, and singing around the piano are what she loved to do. Some assistance could be counted on by the “Kitchen Band” (pots, pans, and wooden spoons). She also played the accordion which she learned as a child. Beta Sigma Phi kept her busy with many sisters who all shared the passion for helping the less fortunate. They and their husbands dressed for the parts they played in entertaining groups and conventions coming to McAllen. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter and friend. We will miss her deeply but keep those sweet memories of her in our hearts. “Say not in grief ‘she is no more’ but live in thankfulness that she was.” She was preceded in death by her parents, Michael & Edith Hall; her son Michael Guthrie; her husband, Curtis Berard; and her former husband James Guthrie. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Guthrie Dixon Of South Padre Island and son Patrick Guthrie of Austin; her grandchildren: Stephen Strohmeyer (Cindy), Gloriana Koll (Richard), Matthew & Nathan Guthrie (Ashley); her great-grandchildren: Finn Strohmeyer, Joaquin Koll, Kasen Koll, Charlie Strohmeyer, Jax & Hayley Guthrie. We little knew that morning God was to call your name. In life we loved you dearly, in death we do the same. It broke our hearts to lose you, you did not go alone. For part of us went with you, the day God called you home. You left us beautiful memories, your love is still our guide, and though we cannot see you, you are always at our side. Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same, but as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again. Memorial reception will be on held on April 14, 2017 at 2:00 PM at the Patio on Guerra, 116 S 17th St, McAllen, TX You may sign the online guestbook and send words of comfort, flowers, or sympathy cards to the family of Alice Guthrie Berard at: www.thomaegarza.com.
