South Padre Island, TX -Samuel David Carrasco, 53, of South Padre Island, Texas passed away Monday, October 9, 2006. Sam was born in Brownsville, Texas on October 2, 1953. He was a devoted and proud father to Keenyn and Tony. Mr. Carrasco is survived by his wife, Christy Carrasco; mother, Noemi Carrasco; 3 brothers, Rick (Jackie) Carrasco, Rev. Leo (Luvy) Carrasco, Moy (Inez) Carrasco; and 2 sisters, Sylvia Carrasco and Ruth Carrasco. Sam was the owner and operator of The Palmetto Inn Restaurant on South Padre Island. He had served as a State Director of the Texas Restaurant Association. Sam loved life; he lived each day "like it was his last." He loved fishing and being on the water, hunting at the Deer Lease and playing golf. Sam loved his family and friends and was a very kind and generous person. He was a PADI certified scuba instructor and taught for over 20 years. He looked forward to fishing TIFT every year with his fishing team. He was also on the TIFT Advisory Board for many years. Sam was the founder of The Walk for Women Bay Fishing Tournament. At one time he served on the Board of Directors at St. Alban's Episcopal Day School in Harlingen. He was a musician, guitar player and the best cook and Bar-B-Quer on the Island. His motto was "Every Day is an Adventure." Sammy's spirit is bigger than life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Sammy Carrasco Memorial Fund, South Padre Bank, 2701 Padre Blvd., South Padre Island, Texas 78597, Attn: Polo. Memorial Service will be held today, October 11, 2006 at 6:00 P.M. at Chapel by the Sea on South Padre Island. Arrangement have been entrusted to the care of Thomae-Garza Funeral Directors, 395 S. Sam Houston, San Benito, Texas (956) 399-1331.
